In the name of the Wiecking family as Charles Wiecking's eldest son, welcome; thanks for joining us as we remember my father, give thanks for his life, and pray for his soul.
A human being's life is multi-faceted; and while my memories of my father relate mostly to his presence at the dinner table and by my side playing Schubert and Brahms piano duets, or in the stalls behind me belting away a hymn or an anthem, others saw him in other ways. We can all testify to his sense of responsibility, to his courtesy (uniformly remarked on by hospice nurses in his last days), to his humor, his erudition, and his love of the arts.

I'm glad to see people here from the St. John's Opportunity Shop, which closed for a few hours today in his honor; from his early days as a Washington bachelor and young married man; from his time as a civil servant; and from his other civic and church activities, including most especially the Cathedral Choral Society, the St. John's Parish Choir behind me and the ex-Senior Wardens of Norwood Parish, many of whom are seated in the front row of the nave here.
In that context, let me note that in reading St. Paul's First Epistle to the Corinthians recently, I observed that the author specifically mentions church administrators as possessors of gifts of the Holy Spirit-and I'm confident that my father, in common with other ex-Senior Wardens of Norwood Parish here today or travelling, would approve!
So again, welcome; let me now step down and let my brothers David and Alan say a few words."
